White Ink Printing

White ink printing is available to incorporate white text or design elements, either on a metallic or clear base print layer, or underneath another color to provide a non-metallic, opaque look. When your label necessitates white ink printing, it’s crucial to place the white ink elements on a separate layer in the Adobe Illustrator file.

Here’s how to set up a white ink layer in Adobe Illustrator:

  1. In Adobe Illustrator, create a new layer dedicated to the white portions of your design. Name this layer “White.”
  2. Once the “White” layer is established, generate a new color swatch. Navigate to “Window,” then “Color,” and select “Swatches” to open the Swatch Palette.
  3. Click in the upper right-hand corner of the Swatch Palette and choose “Add New Color.”
  4. In the Color Type drop-down menu, opt for “Spot.” Change the Swatch Name to “White,” with the W capitalized. Click “OK.”
  5. On the “White” layer, using the “White” color, fill in the objects you want to appear white. Alternatively, if you want white to be printed behind a design element, trace the shape you require.

NOTE: The outlined steps should only be followed if “White” does not already exist.
